Den Haag

Spend the day shopping the The Hague. Despite the heat it was still a nice day. Bought a number of things, including the following, which are the result of a successfull trip to the bookstore, Morgan's Run by Colleen McCullough, Pauline Gedge's Lords of the Two Lands trilogy (The Hippopotamus Marsh, The Horus Road and The Oasis) and The Long Walk by Stephen King. I'm particularly pleased with the latter, since that is one of my favourite shortstories and it was -untill now- impossible to get my hands on a copy.

Shopping

Spend the day in Amsterdam, browsing the stores and markets. Bought a bunch of thing, like earrings, jeans, shoes, a shirt and a book. Didn't see the 'stars' though. ;-)

After that, got some Chinese and watched a movie. A good day, all in all.

Oberhausen

Good Friday today. Going to the megamall in Oberhausen (Germany) tomorrow. Hopefully I can find the perfect leather jacket -the one I've been looking for, for ages- there.

Cinema

Were planning to see Big Fish last night, but somehow it's impossible to go to the movies on a tuesday in Leiden. So we went to the local Mexican and rented Intolerable Cruelty instead. Which was quite un-Coen, but quite entertaining nonetheless.

Cooking

Went to Keizer Culinair last night with most of my colleagues. We had to prepare and then eat our own meal. Had a good time, despite the presence of quite a lot of cheese.

Shopping!

Did some shopping earlier. Bought the Zire leather case. Looks nice. Found 2 beautiful pairs of earings, which I could not resist. And some bits and pieces for around the house.

Playing The Sims now, for the first time in ages. Still a great game though. And I'm doing some stuff for this site at the same time. Don't you just love multitasking? Improved some of the features for the maintenance. For example, I added an overview of referers. Nice to know who's linking to me. Like Arachne and Puckspodium. Thanks guys.

Haarlem

Went to Haarlem [wiki] this afternoon, to do some shopping. Bought a bit too much, but some great finds. Like the perfect sidetable, which I'd been looking for for ages.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam was great. First we went to the Albert Cuyp market, took the tram to the Waterlooplein and then walked through the centre untill we ended up back at the trainstation. Unbelievable that one exhausting day can be summed up in one sentence. I bought more then I intended to, but that's okay. Ended up with two comfy vests and three longsleeves. Also a beautiful pair of silver earrings, with deepred stones. And, much to my surprise, the new Opeth, called Deliverance! It was supposed to be released on November 4th, so I'm glad I asked the guy at the shop for it. I also purchased 2 Fields of the Nephilim albums, Revelations and Elizium. I also tried on a number of shoes, but there were none I liked. Why is every shop offering the same sort of things? Where is the originality?

Seminar

Got back from the Macromedia Dreamweaver MX seminar about half an hour ago. One of the speakers was Tim Green, writer of Dreamweaver MX: PHP Web Development. It was okay. Tim knew what he was talking about. But I'm not convinced. I just want more control. So I will continue to use ColdFusion Studio, but I am going to tinker a bit more with Dreamweaver.

Glad it's weekend though. I'm so tired. Thinking about renting a movie, but can't really be bothered to put on my shoes again. Sigh. Maybe I'll pull a DVD off the shelf or just watch some tv.

Gondrexange

Finally, a spare moment to post some thoughts. I decided not to go to work this afternoon, like I had planned originally, because I had some stuff to do. First I had another hospital appointment and a total of 4 tubes of blood were taken. But because the entire country appears to be closed for maintenance, the bus takes an enourmous detour, which didn't leave me much time. Therefore I decided to go on my bike. It's only 8km and the sun was shining. And after my appoinment this morning I went into town to stock up on some stuff and I've have only just gotten back.

Anyhow, I've cleared away most of my vacation stuff and though we had a good time last week, I'm looking forward to some solitude in the coming weeks. My parents are leaving again tomorrow and my brother is still in Tunisia (CIA Tunisia Factbook). Oh, it only just occured to me I haven't written anything about last week. Well, I joined my parents on an old-style holiday (when my brother and I were little, the four of us would do this one month out of every year) in France with my tent and their caravan. Because we only had a week we decided to stay in the northern parst and ended up in a small town called Gondrexange, in the Lorraine region. From there we explored the surrounding towns and sights, like the Parc Animalier de Sainte-Croix and ofcourse Strasbourg.

I didn't get round to reading everything I had planned, but I did read Just for Fun by Linus Torvalds, The Silver Sword (The Heirs of Cahira O'Connor , No 1) by Angela Elwell Hunt, the beautiful The River Midnight by Lilian Nattel and am currently halfway through re-reading Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, Part 1). As I was browsing the bookstore this afternoon I noticed all kinds of new editions of this popular novel. But I'm glad I've got my dads old copy, which he got on his birthday, when I was just 2 weeks old. It's gone all yellow and folded, but I think that's the charm of books, don't you?
